After the weekend of international fixtures the Bundesliga resumes with what a few years ago would have been an unlikely top versus bottom clash, with FC Bayern entertaining Werder Bremen at the Allianz Arena. One of FCB’s rivals in the late 1980s and for much of the 1990s, the northern side have gone through a rough patch of late, and with a grand total of just four points from their opening seven matches are propping up the table.

In looking for their first three point haul of the season Bremen have got the toughest task possible – and Bayern will be looking on building on their momentum ahead of their key Champions’ League clash with AS Roma in midweek. Last year’s fixture at the Allianz would see a shaky but in the end comprehensive win for Bayern, which would see finish with a 5-2 victory over the “fish heads”.
